On November 10th, I joined Gambero Rosso and Tenute Rubino at an intimate and exclusive wine-pairing dinner at Piccola Cucina.
Tenute Rubino is known as “the home of Susumaniello” in Puglia, Italy and their Brindisi Rosso Susumaniello Oltremé 2020 has just been awarded a Tre Bicchieri 2023 designation, the highest honor from Gambero Rosso.
This special Italian wine-pairing dinner was now for the senses.
Before we feasted on this amazing meal, we learned about how this fabulous wine was made.
Then we feasted! That was an understatement. For our first course, we had bruschetta, arancini and octopus. This was paired up with two lovely wines, Sumare Susumaniello to Mesi Metodo Classico 2017 and Oltreme Susumaniello Rosato Salento 2021.
We also had an amazing white pizza…
Next up we had a pasta course with Cavatelli ai porcini and Maccheroni alla Norma. Then we tasted the Oltreme Doc Brindisi Susumaniello 2019 and Jaddien DOC Brindisi Riserva 2017.
Our main course was an amazing ribeye steak with potatoes, which paired well with the three red wines we tried. We had Torre Testa Doc Brindisi Susumaniello 2017, Torre Testa Salento Susumaniello 2016 and Torre Testa Salento Susumaniello 2004.
After we were finished, we enjoyed some cannoli and almond biscotti.
I extremely enjoyed myself. Great food, company and wine! I’m looking forward to Gambero Rosso’s Tre Bicchieiri tasting on Friday, March 10, 2023, at the Metropolitan Pavilion. I feel like this was just a small taste of what to expect.
