Watch out Thursdays! Wednesday is the new Thursday!
I recently went and experience one of NYC’s hotspots, Her Name Was Carmen. ‘s main staples, Wine Wednesdays. From the festive parrot wallpaper to the pineapple disco ball, it is pretty obvious why this place is so cool.
Wine Wednesday’s are the popular mainstay that has become a three-hour venture, that Sommelier Yuval Bar-Kokhba leads every second week with the exclusion of holidays and private events. “What began as a desire to introduce wines from exciting regions to our customers, soon evolved into a popular educational social event. It is so much more than your typical wine tasting – it’s charming, interesting and everyone’s opinion matters, irrespective of their level of wine knowledge”.
Yuvi had two great wines picked out for the night. The first one was Petra Hebo Toscana 2017, Cabernet blend with Merlot. The bouquet is full of red fruit, with hints of black cherry and blueberry. The wine has excellent balance and length with a tangy finish of blackberry and dried fruit. Following a wonderful Chianti Classico from Tenuta di Capraia. Paired up with some fantastic cheese and prosciutto — just delightful.
At Her Name was Carmen’s Wine Wednesday’s, guests are not only treated to an educational experience with different wine themes but to an authentic social event including live music, conversing and constant interaction. The wine presentation hosted by Sommelier Yuval, begins promptly at 7:30 pm in the cocktail lounge, followed by a live musical performance. Guests can order premium featured wines by the glass, along with a special bar menu or proceed upstairs to the restaurant to try the dishes that pair with the fine wine selection sampled during the event. All Wine Wednesday’s feature exciting free live musical performances including Flamenco, Live Jazz, and Folk Music.
