Celebrate International Sherry Week with Gonzalez Byass: November 8 – 14, 2021

The flavors of Fall are upon us, and with that comes International Sherry Week, November 8 – 14, 2021.  For the 8th year, International Sherry Week, the world’s largest celebration of Sherry Wines will bring the delights of this fabulously versatile wine to homes, bars, restaurants and wine stores across the US.

It’s the perfect excuse to get to know ‘Sherry better. Yet, with so many styles to choose from and so many heavenly pairings to contemplate, in celebration of International Sherry Week (and just in time for Thanksgiving), here’s a range of Sherries from Gonzalez Byass that pair well with pie!  On that note, turkey, stuffing, and appetizers get all of the glory with wine pairings, but let’s not forget the last course; dessert!!

Whether you’re planning to serve pie this Thanksgiving or to serve pie anytime – here are some pairing suggestions that will elevate your pie experience in ways you never expected.

Apple Pie with Gonzalez Byass Alfonso Oloroso:  produced from 100% Palomino grapes, this dry Sherry is significantly drier than Apple Pie but the toasty flavors pair nicely with the sugar to provide a contrasting taste that averts a cloying effect. The nutty character of the Alfonso pairs perfectly with the cinnamon and clove spices of the Apple Pie

Pecan Pie with Harveys Bristol Cream: produced from a blend of 80% Palomino and 20% Pedro Ximénez grapes, this semi-sweet Sherry’s velvety character thanks to the addition of the Pedro Ximénez grapes enhances the shared nuttiness in both the pie and the Sherry but respects their differences

Texas Two Step (a pecan and chocolate brownie pie) with Gonzalez Byass Solera 1847 Cream: produced from a blend of 75% Palomino and 25% Pedro Ximénez grapes, this Sherry with a touch of sweetness pairs nicely with the nuttiness and the not too sweet chocolate in this pie which is balanced by the tangy acidity of the Sherry

Cherry Pie with Gonzalez Byass Néctar Pedro Ximenez:  produced from 100% Pedro Ximénez grapes, this silky smooth, sweet Sherry with aromas of candied fruit, figs and raisins offers a good contrast to the tart cherry flavors of the pie.

It’s always great to try new things, and your new favorite Sherry and Pie pairing could be just a sip away. To celebrate International Sherry Week we are inviting you to discover your own delectable Sherry and Pie pairings.
