Yesterday, Matt Kliegman, Carlos Quirarte and chef Melia Marden open their first Brooklyn location with Smile To Go DUMBO, an all-day cafe located within the new waterfront Empire Stores development. Serving healthy and wholesome seasonal Mediterranean-inspired fare alongside a selection of baked goods by The Smile’s pastry chef Rosanne Smith, The Smile’s DUMBO menu rotates daily, like its sister shop on Howard Street.
With an emphasis on takeout, Smile To Go DUMBO is open for breakfast, lunch and dinner. To accompany morning baked goods, Smile To Go serves Counter Culture coffee as well as a full breakfast menu with options such as breakfast burrito with eggs, black beans, avocado, cheddar & cilantro and overnight oats with seasonal fruit compote. At lunchtime, staples such as salads, grains, sandwiches and vegetables are on offer, while dinner service is a first for the DUMBO location, as are rotisserie chickens to-go in three styles: classic rosemary, harissa honey and mustard thyme. Desserts include a selection of pastries such as chocolate halvah cookies, sticky lemon coconut loaf and their popular dark chocolate chip & sea salt cookie.
Their largest location to date, the cafe is located alongside Shinola and features an open kitchen with counter service, a full bakery and a dining area with 20 seats. Visitors can enjoy their meals to stay or to go and enjoy in Brooklyn Bride Park along the East River, with unparalleled views of the Manhattan skyline.
