America is Obsessed with this One Show During Christmas

TV show episodes become so highly memorable that we tune into them year after year as we get into the holiday spirit. The Office’s “Christmas Party” episode where they play White Elephant with an iPod on the line has become quite the Christmas staple.

In fact, The Office is the most-watched TV show during Christmastime in the U.S. with The Simpsons following close behind.

USDish, for the second year in a row, compiled data of the most-watched TV show episodes during the holidays and determined which of those shows each state is watching most during Christmas. We wanted to be extra nice this year, so we have included New Year’s Eve data, too.

USDish calculated the top 15 by looking at IMDb rating and viewership numbers. To determine what each state was watching during Christmastime, we measured search volume by state.

Here are some interesting findings regarding Christmas episodes:

  • Christmas and medical dramas might not go hand in hand, but House scored 5 out of the top 15 episodes.
  • Christmas shows had an average time of 40 minutes, which is longer than the running times for the most popular Thanksgiving and New Year’s episodes.
  • The Office snagged two episodes in the top 15, but it had the highest search volume than any other show.
