The Millhouse Brewing Company

So I got old… I mean I got older… So the one place I want to celebrate was at The Millhouse Brewing Company, because… you know. I love beer. Good craft beer that is!

If you’re a city dweller and not familiar with The Millhouse, it’s all the way up in Poughkeepsie, NY. TOTALLY worth the drive… especially for pumpkin season. It’s the only place worth going up to — besides Marist College and the reputable Culinary Institute of America, WHICH these guys were trained!

I usually go for an IPA like the Northwest Territory or Hubar, BUT SAISON is my thing now.  The Belgian style SAI, what you are sippin SON? was just my thing – was fruity and spicy enough. I switched to the porter later… in all if its glory.

Our table got two apps. The first one was the cheddar cheese and potato pierogies that take me back to Christmases with my Polish side of the family. These “dumplings” were served with caraway sour cream.

See that fried one right there… That’s the one I grabbed immediatly.

Fried oysters

We got the Fried Oysters, which changed a little from the last time to include more. These oysters were topped with blue cheese and garnished with micro celery and came pickled mustard seed hot sauce. So yum.

Main course: A burger. Okay, if you know me… I might be a little burger obsessed. BUT this one is amazing… The HAND GROUND 50/50 BURGER  is half bacon and half sirloin. It’s grilled to perfection, which in this case is well done.  Since the meat HAS bacon inside (you read that right), it’s cooked well, but when you bite into it, it’s pink. This bad boy is filled with baby arugula, tomato, sweet and smokey onion jam, swiss cheese, and roasted garlic aioli, served on a brioche bun and served with the most delicious Belgian fries. Personally switched the swiss cheese for their cheddar.

I present to you the 50/50 Burger in all of its glory…

My goal was to finish the burger and to bring home the fries. At least I accomplished that!

Dessert is a must here… and that’s what I really want on my birthday, right? With the consensus of my table, we got the peanut butter icebox cake with the Oreo crust. Let the picture do all the talking.  You can just imagine what I thought of it.

The ambiance of this place is farm to table chic with a touch of hipster… The young servers with neat tats give it a more casual and scene vibe.  The burlap and reclaimed wood fixures add a nice touch too.

Of course, I see them getting an amazing mention in the mecca of all press placements the NY Times the next day. It’s no wonder to me why! They are open every day except for Tuesdays.  They do big parties and have awesome weekend specials, which you can follow their insta for.

I’m never disappointed when I come here.
